Florida Teacher Certification Exam Update

March 26, 2020

The Florida Department of Education has released new information in regard to teacher certification exam fees.  Given the current hardships that teachers, teacher candidates, and their families are experiencing related to the COVID-19 crisis, the DOE is providing opportunities for anyone to meet all testing requirements for teacher certification, including General Knowledge, Professional Education, and Subject Area Examinations, OR retake examinations not previously passed, all free of charge.

Beginning April 1, 2020 through July 31, 2020, anyone wishing to take or retake any of the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) will have the opportunity to register free of charge for the exams at http://www.fl.nesinc.com/You will have one year from the registration date to schedule a test appointment. Please note that the certification exam fees are waived, but not Florida Teacher Certification application fees.

As of today, there has been no direction on any extensions related to out-of-field and other certification requirements. The current recommendation from DCPS Certification is for everyone to continue to work on completing requirements. Please refer to the Certification office about any out-of-field or other certification requirements.   Certification is the responsibility of each individual teacher.

For any teachers who will need the Reading Endorsement based on 1011.62(9), F.S., Reading Endorsement HB 7055, this would be an ideal time to register to take the Florida Subject Area Exam for Reading since the fee will be waived.

Also, please review the Post Office email sent out today from the school board with the subject of Florida Teacher Certification Examinations.  If you have any questions, please contact Kella Grant at [email protected]
