July 27, 2020
On Thursday, July 23, 2020, the Duval County School Board voted to delay the opening of schools for employees until August 12, 2020. Students will begin on August 20, 2020.
One of the major questions coming from employees is when they will receive their first paycheck? The superintendent has negotiated with Duval Teachers United and the pay calendar will remain the same, even though the work calendar is being adjusted to consider the change in the start date for employees and students. The employee paychecks will be paid on the previously agreed upon dates. The first paycheck will be paid on August 14, 2020.
The work time that will be lost because of the adjustment to the start of school must be made up by employees and students. The calendar committee has been working on creating a calendar that will make up the instructional time for students and the work time for employees. The committee will look at the previously approved calendar and make adjustments that will allow for the make-up of lost instructional time for students and lost work time for employees.
Once a calendar has been created and approved by the Duval County School Board, it will be made available to employees so that they can plan accordingly.
